Our Story: Great Futures Start Here

The Boys & Girls Club begins serving youth in Milford, creating a safe and positive place for local kids to learn, grow, make friends, and have fun.

The Club becomes a United Way agency and receives its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, creating an even stronger foundation for serving Milford's youth.

In September 2011, Milford becomes an officially chartered member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Milford kids are now part of a nationwide Boys & Girls Club family!

The Club launches its Summer Program, bringing kids together for recreation, friendships, learning, field trips, special activities, and plenty of summer fun.

A major chapter begins with the opening of the Simon Lake Unit in May 2014. The expanded Club gives members more room for programs, recreation, learning, and opportunities to discover their potential. At the time of the Simon Lake ribbon cutting, the Club was already serving 365 children annually through more than 50 programs.

As the Club grows, so do the traditions that bring our entire community together. Over the years, Club members, families, staff, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners have celebrated through special events, fundraisers, leadership opportunities, holiday celebrations, and community service. 

Youth Leadership Takes Center Stage

Programs including Torch Club, Keystone Club, and Youth of the Year give Milford youth opportunities to develop confidence, serve their community, prepare for their futures, and discover what it means to be a leader.

Celebrating Our Kids

From Youth of the Year and the Mayor's Youth Awards to graduations, leadership conferences, scholarships, community service, and member recognition, celebrating young people's accomplishments becomes one of our favorite Club traditions.

WingDing!

A delicious new tradition joins the Club calendar: WingDing, bringing local restaurants and the community together for a friendly battle over Milford's best wings—all while supporting the kids!

 Ice Cream 5K/Walk

The Boys & Girls Club of Milford Ice Cream 5K/Walk combines fitness, family fun, kids' races, community spirit—and, of course, ice cream!

 The Annual Gala

The Club's Annual Gala becomes one of its signature celebrations, bringing supporters, partners, friends, and community leaders together to celebrate Milford's kids and invest in their futures.

In 2026, the Club celebrated its 13th Annual Gala.

Growing Beyond the Clubhouse

The Club continues expanding its reach with afterschool programming at Milford school sites, including Orchard Hills, Calf Pen Meadow, and Live Oaks, alongside programming at the Simon Lake Clubhouse and West Shore Teen Center.

More locations mean more opportunities to meet kids where they are.

Today, Boys & Girls Club of Milford programs, activities, and services reach more than 1,200 youth, providing caring mentors, meaningful programs, leadership opportunities, friendships, and places where kids can belong.

From afterschool afternoons and summer adventures to Youth of the Year, community service, family celebrations, WingDing, the Gala, the Ice Cream 5K and countless everyday Club moments, our story has always been about one thing: THE KIDS
